Who never heard the word of Twitter? A social media network that was made by Jack Dorsey in 2006. It’s blue bird logo “Larry Bird” was adopted from a famous former basket player name of the National Basketball Association (NBA), Larry Bird.
At the beninning 2006, Dorsey had just dropped out from University of New York and he worked at the Odeo Company. At that time, he had a great idea to create a service that enable people to send short message in one or two sentences by using handphone to anyone. He was so inspired by taxi communication system, where drivers can inform their locations to operators concisely through radio communication.
“Just setting up my twttr” was the first Dorsey posting from his account @Jack on March 21st 2006 at around 03.50 pm. He never thought his message will be recorded as the oldest tweet.
Twitter popularity increased in 2007 during the festival South by Southwest (SXSW). At that time, thousands of conference participants spontaneously use Twitter to discuss. During the event, Twitter user increased from 20,000 to 60,000 tweets per day.
Up to June 2012, there are 500 million people who have Twitter account and there were more than ten billion tweets within a month According to Semiocast, a social media monitoring agency, Jakarta is the most active twitter city in the world. Twitter accounts in Indonesia almost reach to 30 million accounts, thus we are in the fifth rank in the world.*
